Using your Barcodes

No product information is required when you order. You can assign the barcodes to your products however you want. The first time a retailer receives your product, they scan the barcode and enter your product information into their system, so from then on the product information appears whenever it is scanned.

Your barcode images arrive in PDF, SVG and PNG formats. Choose the format you prefer and add it to your packaging artwork so the barcode is ready when your product goes to print. If you resize it, try not to go below 30 x 20 mm overall. See our barcode specifications page for details.

Do Irish retailers accept these barcodes?

Yes, our barcodes are in use across Ireland, from SuperValu to Dunnes.

Do I need GS1 Ireland membership?

Not for most retailers. Our barcodes work in all scanning systems and the vast majority of retailers accept them, but a few retailers insist on GS1 membership. See our page on barcode acceptance.

How many barcodes do I need?

You need one barcode for each product and each variation (such as size or colour). Stores use barcodes for two things: to look up the price at the checkout, and to track stock and decide when to reorder.

If a retailer only uses barcodes for pricing, you could use one barcode for two variations of the same product. But if they also use barcodes for stock control, each variation needs its own barcode.

Retailers prefer products that are easy to manage, and some won’t stock products if they have to count each size by hand. So we recommend a different barcode for each variation.

How fast is delivery?

Most orders are emailed automatically within about 5 minutes. Custom artwork takes longer.
