The land of Weatherville exists way up high. It is the home to every cloud, snowflake, raindrop, drizzledrop, rainbow and any other weather-related wonder! They walk, talk, laugh, and cry, and their friendships teach us how the weather works. Through encounters with personified weather characters, children learn how these elements mingle and merge to create the weather that they see around them, especially during their daily journeys to school in Ireland.
These perfect educational companions unravel the mysteries of rainbows, delve into the various types of clouds, and explain the very origin of raindrops, making every trip to school an adventure. As the young readers traverse through the pages, they’re subtly equipped with the knowledge to face Ireland’s unpredictable weather, perhaps remembering to carry an umbrella along!
In Weatherville, understanding weather transcends mere forecasts. It’s about bringing the science of the skies down to earth through captivating storytelling. The aim of these books is to concurrently teach children about the weather by introducing them to different weather characters and showing how they interact together to create different types of weather.
About the Writer
Elayne Heaney is mummy to one little boy, David. Elayne is wife to another David (very confusing!) and lives in Skerries Co Dublin. The books evolved out of her son, David’s overwhelming curiosity and need to understand how everything around him worked as a small child. These anecdotal stories about weather turned into a land called Weatherville. The characters were doodled, the rhymes began, and thus, the books were born.
The first book in the series is called Riley Rainbow and the Colour Catastrophe and was released in 2019. The book explores the rainbows and how they form. it also looks at using colour to describe feelings and emotions. The second book, Chloe Cloud and the Friendly Fog, focuses on clouds and also looks at relationships and friendships.
The third book is called David Drizzledrop and the Puddle Party. It tells the story of the nervous little drizzledrop, David, who overcomes his fears to have the best day ever! This is the ultimate rainy-day rescue book and will have you waving at the raindrops on the way to school.
Fifi Flurry and the Sleepy Snowflake is the latest release and dives into the world of winter weather. The perfect book for cosy cuddles on the couch.
